NewsContentUrl&wbtreeid=1120&wbnewsid=9676)。

To School Advisors and Graduate Students
Date: January 15, 2026
To ensure the smooth and orderly progress of procedures related to degree applications for the Spring 2026 semester—including pre-defense review, blind review, and final defense of degree theses—please be advised of the following reminders.
I. Basic Requirements for Degree Application
Applicants must, within the prescribed study period, complete all courses specified in the training plan with satisfactory grades and obtain the required total credits. They must also pass stages such as the thesis proposal defense and mid-term assessment/check, meet other requirements stipulated in the training program, complete the degree thesis, and pass the pre-defense (for doctoral students), review, and final defense of the thesis.
II. Process and Key Deadlines
After completing the thesis and obtaining advisor approval, graduate students should initiate the relevant thesis-related procedures via the Graduate School’s Degree System (Faculty & Student Portal) (URL:http://yjsxw.hust.edu.cn/SigninXw.html).
For an overview of the process, please refer to Figure 1: Degree System Flowchart.
1. Doctoral Students
Must complete, in sequence: pre-defense, plagiarism check, blind review, final defense, and degree application.
Doctoral students planning to apply for a degree in June are advised to complete the pre-defense by February, allowing time for revisions (at least one week for minor revisions; at least one month for major revisions), plagiarism check and blind review (approximately 30 days), final defense (public notice must be posted at least one week in advance), and post-defense revisions (one week).
2. Master’s Students
Must complete, in sequence: plagiarism check, blind review, final defense, and degree application.
As the blind review process takes approximately 20 days, the school will generally organize thesis submissions in two batches, with deadlines on March 10 and March 25, respectively. Master’s students planning to apply for a degree in June must upload their thesis to the system by the relevant deadline, reaching the “awaiting plagiarism check” stage after advisor approval.
Departments will generally organize three rounds of in-person defense sessions from late March to April, with at least one week between each session. All defenses must be completed by April 30.
3. Degree Application
Master’s and doctoral students planning to apply for a degree in June must initiate the degree application in the system and submit all required materials by May 10.

IV. Training Sessions
The Graduate Office will organize online training sessions during Weeks 1–2 of the spring semester, covering thesis defense arrangements and degree application procedures for both master’s and doctoral students. Detailed guidelines and important notes will be provided.
